Art for me has been a means find answers to my restless self. Till my early thirties I was just drifting from one role to another- daughter, student, wife, daughter-in-law, mother to two beautiful girls. Only after these roles were realized did I grow conscious of my restlessness. I stared by trying to paint these feelings, feelings of being lost, listlessness, of wanting something more. My early works were figurative, faces especially eyes became a very important part of my compositions. I loved working with charcoal, pastels and ink.

Harisha Chennangod

Lockdown has made nature to come back to its old form. In the dense blue sky, the stars have risen in the game of clouds. The brightness of the sun has increased. The seasons have changed. The pollution in the air has decreased. The flower that is supposed to bloom in winter has already revealed its beauty. A flock of birds have come out in search of food and nectar. This painting is not about the food eaters relationship, it is like a bird’s conversation with flowers. As if they are each other’s friends or lovers. (The medium of this painting is sewing. Colored yarn and needle have been used instead of dye and brushes. The artist have chosen the traditional local Kantha art of Birbhum as the medium).

The present series of works are based on political satires on the contemporary political turbulence around the world that people are facing today. Many of these works contains chameleon that depicts the politicians that shows changing colours accordingly, some works contain throne that shows the power and sometimes caterpillars, some of them also contains unbalanced chairs etc. All these symbolize the present situations and the difficulties we face and I try to depict them through a visual vocabulary of my own.

Rahim Mirza
Born in 1969, Rahim Mirza completed his art education at Bharat Bhavan in Bhopal, where he studied printmaking. Mirza’s current body of work however, is largely made up of acrylics on canvas.
The leaf occupies a central motif in much of his work, representing, perhaps, a multiplicity of emotions; while the appearance of the first leaf signifies Spring and renewal, the shedding of the brown leaves in Autumn heralds the onset of winter. It is these subtleties and the complexity of the simple motif that intrigue the artist.
