Description
Agrasen Ki Baoli (Stepwell Series) | Concrete | H 8.2 x W 17.3 x D 2.2 inches | 2021
Hidden amidst modern high-rises, Agrasen Ki Baoli stands still in time as a testament to beauty, power and the sheer spirit of ancient history. The Baoli seen today was rebuilt by the Agarwal community to its former glory in the 14th century. The Baoli was constructed using rubble masonry, evident of its age. One needs to walk down 103 steps to reach the water source. As one begins the journey into its depths, the surrounding sounds begin to fade, giving way to a meditative silence in the space below. The side walls are divided into three distinct stories, each lined with arched niches, rooms and secret passageways hidden in the thick rubble masonry walls. Our section model of the Baoli aims to offer a better understanding of the structural system of the well. The model also seeks to unfold the playful frolic between the various architectural features and shadows.
