In Odisha, the art of woodcarving is rooted in the ancient sculptural traditions that once shaped its great temple architecture. This architectural model of the 11th-Cent. Lingaraj Temple, oldest among Odisha’s iconic triad, alongside Puri’s Jagannath and Konark’s Sun Temple, emerges from meticulous research, site immersion, and precise renderings developed at Siddhartha Das Studio. The accompanying animation film made by the Studio, helps a viewer understand this. The work is the result of a two-year collaboration between the Studio and five master artisans, led by Laxmi and Bhima. Merging contemporary design with the age-old Sthapati tradition, the model embodies a confluence of form, sacred geometry, and iconography.
