The theme Panch Tatva is deeply rooted in Indian philosophy and forms the very basis of existence. Though we encounter these five elements — Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space — every day, we rarely pause to consciously experience their presence within ourselves. This installation is an artistic exploration of that awareness, translating ancient Vedic wisdom into a contemporary, spatial form.

Theme :
The theme Panch Tatva is deeply rooted in Indian philosophy and forms the very basis of existence. Though we encounter these five elements — Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space — every day, we rarely pause to consciously experience their presence within ourselves. This installation is an artistic exploration of that awareness, translating ancient Vedic wisdom into a contemporary, spatial form.

Philosophical Foundation
According to yogic and Vedic traditions, the human body is governed by seven primary chakras (energy centers). Of these, the first five chakras correspond directly to the Panch Tatva, while the sixth and seventh represent subtler realms of mind and consciousness.

Mooladhara (Root Chakra) – Located at the base of the spine, this chakra grounds the body and represents the element Prithvi (Earth), symbolizing stability, structure, and physical existence.

Swadhisthana (Sacral Chakra) – Positioned above the Mooladhara, near the lower abdomen, this chakra governs fluidity and absorption, representing Jal (Water) — the element of flow, adaptability, and life.

Manipurak (Solar Plexus Chakra) – Located near the navel, this center is associated with digestion and metabolic energy. It represents Agni (Fire), the transformative force responsible for energy, will, and vitality.

Anahata (Heart Chakra) – Situated near the heart and lungs, this chakra governs respiration and life force, representing Vayu (Air) — movement, breath, and connection.

Vishuddhi (Throat Chakra) – Located near the vocal cords, this chakra represents Akasha (Space). Space is experienced through sound and vibration, making the throat — the center of expression — the embodiment of this element.

The Ajna (Third Eye) and Sahasrara (Crown Chakra) transcend the material elements. They symbolize the subtler dimensions of mind and pure consciousness, guiding perception, intuition, and spiritual awareness.

Energy Pathways and Form
Yogic philosophy describes the human body as containing approximately 72,000 nadis—subtle energy channels through which prana (life force) flows. These are divided amongst, Ida and Pingala. Their convergence gives rise to the Sushumna Nadi, the central energy channel that runs vertically through the body, connecting the Mooladhara to the Sahasrara.

This installation abstracts the Sushumna as a central tubular form, within which the five chakric elements are positioned at their respective locations. Surrounding this core, the structure is composed of woven metal fabric tubes that forms the body and symbolically represent the network of nadis, radiating and circulating cosmic energy.

Materiality and Craft
The entire installation is handcrafted using woven metal fabric tubes, a material language that aligns with both strength and fluidity. The interlacing of woven metal fabric tubes mirrors the invisible yet intricate energy systems within the human body, transforming philosophical concepts into a tactile, spatial experience.

Intent
This work seeks to create a meditative encounter — inviting viewers to not merely observe, but to feel the Panch Tatva within themselves. By bridging ancient wisdom with contemporary material expression, the installation becomes a reminder that the cosmos and the human body are not separate, but deeply interconnected.
