Description

Wilson D’ Souza | Untitled | Oil on Canvas | 48 x 48 inches | 2025

This compelling painting by Wilson D’ Souza presents a tender yet powerful portrayal of human intimacy through his signature contemporary figurative style. Two nude figures are shown in a close, protective embrace, their bodies leaning into one another with a sense of trust and emotional dependence. The faces remain intentionally undefined, shifting the viewer’s attention to the language of the body—hands resting gently yet firmly, torsos aligned, and forms overlapping in a quiet dialogue of closeness. D’ Souza employs bold, gestural brushstrokes and layered planes of paint to model the figures, giving them a raw, tactile presence. The restrained palette of earthy browns, warm skin tones, soft whites, and muted greens and blues creates a subdued, contemplative atmosphere. Vertical strokes in the background echo the contours of the figures, suggesting an emotional landscape rather than a physical setting, and reinforcing the idea of intimacy unfolding in a private, internal space. The painting balances sensuality with vulnerability, conveying a moment that feels both deeply personal and universally human, characteristic of D’ Souza’s exploration of connection, longing, and emotional resonance.

Wilson Souza was born in Kayyar, in Kasargod district and is an alumnus of Mahasala School of Art, Mangaluru. He has been honoured at the Konkani Janapad Utsav by the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and conferred the Sadhana Award by Emirates Konkans.

Wilson believes in creating art that inspires. His paintings have a bold theme and mostly concentrate on feminine themes capturing the interplay of nature and the female form. Wilson’s romance with feminine themes has become his trademark narrative style. It is characterized by semi abstract strokes of bold colours, rendering it with an amalgam of fantasy and reality.
