Description

Sujit Karmakar | Indian Sadhu | Acrylic on Canvas | 60 x 48 inches | 2024 (Rolled & Delivered)

This vibrant painting captures the powerful presence of a sage or ascetic figure, rendered with striking realism and intensity. Draped in vivid red robes and adorned with multiple rudraksha beads, the figure exudes spiritual depth and timeless wisdom. His calm, introspective gaze and flowing grey beard speak of inner peace and detachment from the material world. The richly textured background — an explosion of red, blue, green, and yellow — creates a dynamic contrast, symbolizing the chaos of life surrounding the calmness of spiritual enlightenment. The artist skillfully blends traditional iconography with a modern expressionist style, using bold colors and energetic brushwork to emphasize both the serenity and strength of the subject. This painting is a powerful portrayal of spirituality, resilience, and the enduring human quest for transcendence amidst the vibrancy of existence.

Born : 1969

Art is something which reflects artist`s perspective to the world, to the things and to the people around him and this goes true in case of Samir Sarkar a renowned artist from Kolkata. His canvases are mostly occupied by human figures wearing a headgear and has a face painted on them which depict the double-faced nature of people and this gives his paintings an authentic sense of reality. He uses layers of acrylic paintings as tempera to create human figures which ornament his canvas. His usage of fast colours, gives a definite brightness to the figure he captures.
