Description
Chand Baori (Stepwell Series) | Concrete | H 14.5 x W 10.5 x D 7.4 inches
Built by King Chandra of the Nikhumbh Dynasty to facilitate people with year-round water supply and relief from the scorching sun of Rajasthan. The Baori boasts of thirteen vertiginous levels organized like a box within a box, plunging to an emerald green pool watched over by pillared loggias, arches, brackets, terraces and niches with carved Hindu deities. Featuring a dizzying array of some 3,500 compact steps, arranged in a tessellating pattern along the peripheral walls and reflection from the pool below make for a mystical play of light and symmetric shadows.
To help visualize the magnificence of this masterpiece, we present the Chand Baori, a sectional model complete with its tessellating stairways and compelling play of shadows.
